This is a historical tour through the narrow streets and old buildings of downtown Rio. The old Rio lives together with the new, from the colonial to the modern, mixing different styles from different times, cultures and habits. The history of Rio is the birthplace of the history of Brazil. The walk includes many interesting points such as Saint Benedict Monastery, Candelária (candle maker) Church, the S.A.A.R.A street market, Real Gabinete Portugues (Portuguese library), Praça XV, Paço Imperial, Palacio Tiradentes, Bank of Brazil Cultural Center, Casa França Brasil and Gonçalves Dias street with the traditional Colombo coffee shop. The tour also includes a stop at Cinelandia square where the French inspiration to the city’s architecture can be easily seen in the Museum of Fine Arts, the Municipal Theatre and the National Library.
